Vision Statement

Why Now? Why Us?

We believe as a congregation that we have reached a juncture in our journey which no longer affords a passive response to the ills of our community and our world. We are being called as a progressive community of faith to stand up to the misapplication and abuses of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ. We are called to re-examine God’s Words to discern its relevance for our lives today. And in do so; we believe we will find a word of hope.

Why now?

For the first time in our history we have the technological power and ability to either provide shelter, to feed and ensure the safety of our communities, or to destroy civilization. For far to long our response to the world’s ills has been framed along the lines of ideologies, Left wing or Right wing, Democrat or Republican. Many times this frame of reference distorts the reality that every action or inaction has repercussion for us all. We live on the same earth, we breath the same oxygen and we are interconnected and interdependent in such a way that each breath or step we take has implications for all of humanity.

Why Us?

We believe that we have been called for such a time as this. Therefore, we seek to spread the librating Gospel of Jesus the Christ by word and deed. We seek to live out our faith in ways that affirm the humanity of all of God’s people. We seek to alleviate the injustice and oppression experienced by persons of color, the elderly, the poor, gays and lesbians, the physically challenged and others who have been disfranchised by our society and discouraged from living out their God given potential. We will stand for and with those who are unable to speak or stand for themselves. Our belief in justice for all is informed by the words of the prophet Micah who asked the question, “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
